Medicare Legislation for Home Infusion Therapy

S.3505 and H.R. 2567 Introduced! Contact Congress Now to Support these Bills

NHIA is pleased to announce that Senator Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas has introduced S.3505, the "Medicare Home Infusion Therapy Coverage Act of 2008," along with Senators Olympia Snowe of Maine and Johnny Isakson of Georgia. This is the companion bill to H.R. 2567, the "Medicare Home Infusion Therapy Coverage Act of 2007" introduced by Rep. Eliot Engel of New York along with five more Representatives from both parties.

To pass the bills, we need all in the home infusion community to educate Congress on the need for meaningful Medicare coverage of home infusion therapy and request that they co-sponsor these bills.

Introduction of these bills into the 110th Congress is part of NHIA's bipartisan campaign to obtain meaningful Medicare coverage for home infusion therapy.

Background on S.3505 and H.R. 2567

This legislation addresses the significant gaps in coverage associated with Medicare Part D’s “drug-only” coverage for home infusion by adding coverage of the remaining elements of home infusion therapy under Part B, including the professional services, supplies, and equipment.

Introduction of these bills is a significant step forward in NHIA’s campaign for meaningful home infusion therapy coverage in Medicare, and we are moving forward to obtain many additional cosponsors in the Senate and House of Representatives. An essential part of making this happen is a comprehensive grassroots advocacy effort from the entire home infusion community. Click here to contact your U.S. Senators and House Representatives now!
