Legislative & Advocacy Resource Center

NHIA is a trade association that represents and advances the interests of organizations that provide infusion and specialized pharmacy services and products and to the entire spectrum of home-based patients.  In doing so, we always consider the provision of cost-effective and highest quality medical care to patients undergoing infusion therapy to be of utmost importance.

Our wide-spectrum of advocacy activities are focused on clinical and business best-practices that may be subject to legislation, regulation, accreditation, practices of health plans/third party payers, and more.  These include:

• Advancing and influencing federal legislation.

• Educating federal regulators.

• Communicating with national accrediting agencies.

• Reaching out to private-sector health plans.

• Providing tools to the entire infusion community of providers and payers.

• Assisting state-based infusion provider initiatives.

Currently, our highest priority is to enact legislation that will bring a meaningful coverage benefit to Medicare patients when they find themselves in need of home infusion therapy.  Our other areas of focus may also be explored from here.

Led by NHIA Executive Director Russell Bodoff, our key advocacy team members include:

• John R Magnuson, Vice President of Legislative Affairs, who calls on Capitol Hill legislators, helps NHIA members communicate to Congress, and leads NHIA’s legislative activities on Capitol Hill.

• Bruce E Rodman, MBA, Vice President of Health Information Policy, who monitors regulatory and industry developments pertaining to the business aspects of infusion therapy while leading NHIA’s payer relations, coding and claiming initiatives.

In addition, NHIA benefits from the services of Powell Goldstein LLP whose NHIA team in Washington, DC is led by Attorney Alan Parver who is a long-time expert on policy matters pertaining to alternate-site infusion therapy.
